Up at 10ish, grand plans of going biking in Bois de Boulogne. By 5pm, we finally find the bike rental place. Nap 'til 6pm, ride a tandem for an hour (I got to drive, too! Even w/ a supportive audience who cheered me on when I couldn't get going and applauded later success). Between 10am and 5pm: get ready, get groceries for the day (salami, cheese (one normal, one nasty and green), etc), get sunscreen, get to the subway, get going. J: "Get off, get lost." Ask two people for directions; they are inconsistent; this stays consistent for the rest of the day. As a result, we walk in the heat for at least 4 hrs without seeing the lakes that we were looking for (J: "two large lakes that dominate the park") or the numerous attractions listed in Lonely Planet (e.g. garden of Shakespearean plants/flowers). Nice picnic over a waterfall; view wedding photo session. The lake area is pretty but very busy: see pictures. Nice day overall, but I had hoped for more wilderness. J laughs that "Paris is no place for a Canadian to find wilderness".
Back at home: potato salad, relax, type this.
